Mechanical Gate Valve
Keylion® Mechanical Gate Valve is also widely called a resilient seated sluice valve or NRS isolation valve within the industry. It controls fluid flow by lifting and lowering a rubber-lined wedge.
The stem only rotates and does not move up or down. This rotation drives the internal nut and gate to open or close the pipeline passage.
Many engineers select this valve for municipal water supply networks, fire protection mains and industrial cooling systems. Its soft-seal structure delivers dependable sealing performance even under low pressure.
It is commonly used as the main isolation valve for pipelines transporting potable water, neutral liquids and treated sewage.

Performance characteristics
This gate plate uses ductile iron as its base. High-performance rubber is fully bonded to both sides of the plate through advanced integral vulcanization. This one-piece construction offers good flexibility and wear resistance, and maintains reliable sealing even after long periods in service.
We use special precision machining to lock the copper nut firmly to the ductile iron gate. This combined connection stops loosening that often comes from repeated operation and constant water impact. It helps avoid valve control faults in the long run.
Many standard gate valves have recessed seats. Those recesses tend to raise flow resistance and trap weld debris, gravel and sediment, which hurts sealing and flow. Our resilient seated gate valve uses a straight full-bore channel. This flat through-path aligns with the pipeline, cuts down sediment build-up, keeps steady sealing and ensures smooth fluid transfer.
When compared to standard gate valves, this streamlined compact design cuts the overall installation height by more than 60 mm (up to 300 mm). It saves space on job sites. The valve body is cast from high-strength ductile iron, weighing 20%-30% less than conventional alternatives. Field crews will find it much easier to mount, take apart and carry out routine maintenance.
Epoxy powder coating covers both the inside and outside of the whole valve body. Critical moving and mating internal parts are made of stainless steel and copper alloy. The combination of epoxy coating and corrosion-resistant metal components protects against rust and medium erosion, extending service life under harsh working environments.
FAQ
Q: Why is this valve fitted with a square top instead of a regular handwheel?
A: The square stem cap, sometimes referred to as a bonnet cap, is built for buried or underground pipeline setups. Operators can turn the valve on and off from ground level using a T-key wrench or extended spindle. This setup also helps save space below the ground.
Q: Is there a visual position indicator on this non-rising stem (NRS) gate valve?
A: Our standard version does not come with one. Since the stem only spins without moving vertically, you cannot judge the open/closed status just by visual inspection. If your project needs visible status feedback, you can add a mechanical position indicator or limit switch as an extra option when placing your order.
Q: Can we swap out the O-rings while the valve stays installed underground?
A: Yes. One practical advantage of this design is that technicians can replace the top stem seals even when the valve remains fully open and under pressure. There is no need to drain the whole pipeline system.
